Believe us, it’s not all blue skies and butterflies. Yes, the odds are great that your company needs a website, but what are you going to do once you have one? If properly thought out, your new website will be a new part of your business. It might even change the way you do business in the offline world. The most common objective is to make more money with your website. Sometimes the objective might be to pre-qualify leads so only the most qualified customers actually reach you. You might even want to use your website to educate your prospects so they already know what they want when they reach you. Over 80% of your customers search for you on the web before doing business with you. At the very least, you’ll want your website to present the quality and dedication that you’ve worked so hard to build offline.

Just because you have tons of information doesn’t mean it should go on the website. We’re in the age of information overload. The key is to have only the information people are looking for and don’t distract them with excess. Always leave your prospects with a winning first impression and hungry for more.

Measuring success is an absolute must. It’s the best way to determine what your visitors are looking for by watching their viewing patterns, how long they spent on your site, and what made them leave. Every great website has been tried and tested to perfection.

A website is no different than your sales floor. Your visitors appreciate being led in the right direction. It’s hard enough getting used to a new website in just a few seconds. Show your visitors a path. If you’ve given them what they’re looking for, they’ll reach your goal by making a purchase or contacting you for more information. Have we mentioned that we’d love to brainstorm ideas with you?

It’s really easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of social media. The mistake that’s being made is letting the excitement of the new whizbang technology get the better of us. It’s fun stuff to play with for your personal blog but does your business really benefit?

It’s actually pretty easy to decide if you should dabble in the whizbang. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. But how do you tell? Simple. When you started your internet marketing campaign you set forth very specific objectives. A short list of what, above all else, should be accomplished by this campaign. These objectives might be something like “increase sales” or “create a new revenue stream” or even “customer pre-qualification and education”.

If maintaining a company Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, YouTube account or blog doesn’t help you reach an objective, STOP! You could run the risk of tarnishing future prospects’ perception of your company, misdirect attention from things that actually DO get you closer to your objective or in most cases, start something that you can’t finish. Starting a Facebook page that sits dormant isn’t what you want, and it’s certainly not what you potential or existing customers expect. Have a plan.

If you need help putting together an internet marketing campaign that makes sense, drop us a line.
